Art Deco, short for the French Arts Décoratifs ("decorative arts"), and sometimes referred to simply as Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture, and product design introduced in the early 1900’s but rising to prominence at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris in 1925. Posters and printed materials from this period were the inspiration for this invitation to a Scavenger hunt. Credit for introducing the Scavenger Hunt is attributed to the Jazz Age gossip columnist, Elsa Maxwell. In 1927 she hosted a party in Paris which asked guests to find certain items during the evening. This quilt tells the story of Bella York and her introduction to Paris social life in the 1920’s. The photographs are from my own introduction to Paris.
