“My grandmother got me quilting at age 17, but I have always slept under quilts and been fascinated by them,” says Elsie. For years she made her children’s clothing and when they were grown, she returned to quilting, spurred by the 1976 bicentennial. The design and colors of this quilt were inspired by an antique quilt Elsie saw in a Michigan Quilt Show in 1986.Label

I have sewed since I was 13, making most of my own and later my family's clothes. My grandmother got me started quilting when 1 was about 17, but I had always slept under quilts and have always been fascinated by them. Even today, a blanket just doesn't "feel right." Even so, I often wondered, "Why quilting?" I still can't answer that question in so many words, but a few years ago we were watching a TV interview with a singer. When the interviewer asked her if making a comeback was worth the uphill struggle, she answered "I can't NOT sing." 1 turned to my husband and said That's it! I can't NOT quilt." It's a part of who I am .
