"I began quilting in the late 1950’s while I was still in high school, at prodding of my paternal grandmother. Though I received a BS in Home Economics Education, I did little quilting until 1976, the year of the Bicentennial, when I decided to commemorate it with a quilt. That got me started again. I was as that time a stay-at-home mom, in need of a little extra income, and someone had asked me to piece a top for her to quilt, so I thought maybe I could pick up a little extra if I 'hung out my shingle.' For several years, I sold quilts and quilt related items through arts and crafts shows, then tried my hand at entering shows. Some successes early on (including 'Amish Easter Baskets' winning 3rd place at the first AQS show I entered) encouraged me to keep on with that route. Nearly 20 years later, I have had my quilts shown in many shows; they have appeared in several magazines; I have done some teaching; and I am still enjoying doing it. This is the first true miniature I have made, unless you count the one I made in a class with Nancy Johnson-Srebo several years ago. I was invited to make one for this exhibit, but I really prefer to work in the large wall hanging size range. I am blown away by the detail that some quilters are able to achieve in miniatures. This quilt is a reprise of 'Amish Easter Baskets', my full-size quilt which is in the museum's collection, and was inspired by an antique quilt."
