"The Barn Raising arrangement of Log Cabin blocks in this quilt represents barn raising activity and the spools in the four corners represent quilting bees. These two elements give the quilt its title. The inspiration for this quilt, construction of 4,820 pieces in 27 deep rich Amish colors, can be found in antique heirloom quilts and other 19th century Log Cabin quilts. My first design was a crib quilt for our first child and I continued to make quilts for our family of four children. later, I started to make Amish quilt reproductions. I discovered that color is the most important element in successfully recreating Amish quilts. It is possible to come very close to the old look when careful attention is given to fabric selection, pattern, scale, and quilting design."
