“My earliest quilts are in the traditional style with conservative fabric choices,” writes Gail Garber. “However, by 1984, I began to explore original design, after being inspired by the quilts of Ginny Beyer. My first effort, Azimuth, is a king-size medallion style quilt that features a Mariner’s Compass in the center and variations of the compass throughout the quilt. Still a traditionalist, the quilt was entirely hand-stitched and quilted from 1984-1989."
“This was my first original design. I joined a work study group to learn medallion style drafting, taught by Ruby Chick, who was in her 80s at the time.”
