"Each figure represents the muses I would select to join us as we celebrate our passage into the 21st century. Right to left: literature/poetry, fine arts, song/dance, theatre, and crafts/textiles. Each panel of this quilt was made separately. I enjoyed drawing and designing each figure to clearly represent the arts. The sciences were purposely left out. I feel like science and technology will take care of themselves!
Many months (approximately 10) of planning and execution went into this piece. This was my first attempt at a large complicated design and gave me many challenges to overcome. It remains today, the largest art quilt I have made! I consider this work a personal masterpiece in design and color and my workmanship continued to improve as I honed my sewing machine skills daily.
Seeing Amish quilts and falling in love with them, I entered the world of quiltmaking with very little sewing experience but a great willingness to learn. In time I moved into the ‘art quilt’ arena and let my imagination go. My goals are always directed toward creating one-of-a-kind images that portray the natural world and the people who inhabit it."
