Revolutions is part of Carol Taylor’s Gong Series. “This quilt is about taking a motif and rotating it,” says Carol. “How many revolutions does it take to make a circle or to create an entire composition?” The gong motif is Carol’s design that is basically a quarter circle with crossbars that looks rather like Chinese chopsticks. By combining this motif in various ways, she has come up with a whole series of quilts. When the motif is used as a whole circle, it suggests a Chinese gong in an oriental housing. By using values in different ways, this series has evolved into 39 quilts, including Revolutions. Internationally known, Carol Taylor is an award-winning artist who approaches her quilt making with intensity and seemingly boundless energy. She is a teacher by degree, outgoing by nature, and her workshops are said to be “fun, motivational, and non-threatening.”
