“Well, the peacock is just a funny story, because first I wanted to get a nice picture of a peacock. I heard there were peacocks at a nursery about forty-five minutes from my house, but when got there we couldn’t find a peacock. So, I drove all the way back home and that was one afternoon. Then I thought, I will go to the zoo. I mean, they’ve got peacocks out there. So we went out to the zoo, and also it happened to be Senior Day, which we didn’t know this at the time. So I’m snapping pictures. of all the special Senior Day events that were going on, to share with my friends at home. When we finally found the peacock, the battery was dead in my digital camera. So, now I have no picture of a peacock after two attempts. I didn’t know what I was going to do. A friend of mine told me there were peacocks at a restaurant just north of my home. So I went there at about 8:00 at night and could not find a single peacock, at first. Then I saw the pen near the river by the restaurant. There was no top on it, but there were peacocks in there. I stood there and took about fifteen to twenty pictures and that is how I finally got pictures for my peacock.
This quilt was an inspiration. It is something I have wanted to do forever because I love birds and I love the peacock who doesn't sing. So I named the quilt, 'But Can He Sing,' because all the birds that surround him either are beautiful in color or they are beautiful in their voices."
