“This is the first in a series of 6 bed-size quilts that I made using my hand-dyed fabric. It was a transitional piece in that it is made with not only my hand-dyed and –marbled fabric, but also uses a collection of polished cottons. Before I began to dye my own fabric, my work showcased polished cotton in conjunction with maybe one or two special prints. This work is also unique in that it is the first bed-sized quilt I ever made.
“I took my inspiration from a very simple traditional quilt pattern that I call diamond on point. It was the perfect foil to showcase the cloth. I have always been of the opinion that a bed quilt doesn’t need to have the patchwork running all the way down to the floor so I positioned the blocks to just fit on the top surface of the mattress."
