"In 1982 I was asked to make a quilt top for my church group. Everyone was to quilt on it. I had never seen 'real' quilts before--most people I know were making cheater-cloth quilts where the pieced or appliquéd designs were printed on rather than actually stitched of fabric pieces. I made a Rolling Stone pattern and put a border on it. When it was finished, my quilt was auctioned off and brought in the most money. I thought it had been a lot work and I didn't do anything else with quilting for about a year. After that I signed up for a class on strip-pieced star quilts, found out about quilt magazines and quilt shows, and I really got hooked."
