Realizing she has almost a complete alphabet of brass charms led Janet to create Charm School, her eleventh quilt. Each letter is raw-edge appliqued, framed, and attached to a small square of heavy pellon, which is riveted to the quilt. The 26 applique blocks of varying sizes, set between the narrow black and white sashing, are decorated with hot-fixed jewels, pearls and rhinestuds as well as a letter and the charm representing that letter. The quilt is heavily and beautifully custom quilted in varying patterns including florals, pebbles, straight-line outline, curved outline, and crosshatch. A tiny metallic cord is couched by hand just inside the binding with small lime green, purple and turquoise accents as the perfect counterpoint to the primarily beige and black color scheme.
