"I am a former member of the United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps in Washington DC. After my service, as a hobby, I marched for a fire house senior drum and bugle corps on Long Island in New York. I was diagnosed in 1987 with diabetes and had to resign from the marching unit. I was looking for a new hobby and when looking through a quilting magazine I came across a quilt I really liked and asked Virginia if she could make it for me...perhaps 'today'. While she would and has done just about anything for me I fear I may have stepped over that imaginary line with this particular request. Her reply was simple and direct, "If you like it so much make it yourself." I did. This was in September of 1997. Since then I have been on the board of directors of a quilt guild, entered my works in many national quilt shows, been published in many books and magazines, developed and applied for a patent for a seam allowance guide I use for paper and foundation piecing, and traveled all over the country teaching my piecing techniques while Virginia teaches her hand quilting techniques. I could not write a biography about myself and leave out my best friend of almost 50 years. Many of these things I do are with Virginia as she has been my biggest fan and my greatest source of inspiration."
