"I am a farmer's wife and don't find time for quilting during the summer months. However, from September to April, I spend at least four hours a day working on quilts and quilt-related items. I am not an artist, so I stick to the more traditional patterns. For this quilt, I wanted to do something in appliqué so I chose the clamshell. I drew my own clamshell pattern since it was much smaller than the one I found in quilt books. I decided to appliqué the clamshells onto strips of fabric, rather than do it in a block design. I chose the blue, grey, and rose colors since I am fond of dusty colors."
