"My twin sister and I were born on a farm in Kansas, where quilting was one of the 'chores.' At an early age our mother had us cut cloth scraps into patches and place them in a shoe box. When a box became full, a quilt would be put together by hand or by treadle sewing machine. Quilting was work to us then, but now it is my recreation and pleasure. In 1929 I made a kit Colonia Lady quilt and later gave it to my 12-year old daughter. She immediately named all the ladies after girlfriends. It is threadbare from use, but I still have it. In 1984 the pattern appeared in the April 1982 issue of Quilt World and it was a challenge to again make this fancy appliqué quilt."
