"This original design quilt is the third in a series featuring this block. I studied molecular biology at Johns Hopkins, as an undergraduate, at the time genetic engineering came into being. I wanted to make a design with colorful Christmas trees and thought genetic engineering could explain the colors. These days it's designer jeans, designer this, and designer that. I thought 'Why not Christmas trees color-coordinated with living room decor?'"
