"I invented the word ‘silkollage’ to describe my intricate fabric artwork, in which four layers of materials are quilted, appliquéd, embroidered, or painted on. I have studied quilting, printing, and piecing techniques, to give my collages added depth and complexity. As my skills sharpened through a determination to explore untried rules using silk, I stared to cut finer and finer shapes which were then freely embroidered onto a quilted surface. With the aquatic fluidity of a snorkeling scene a la Cousteau, Discovery is the silkollage that displays most vividly the treasures I have found at the core of my creativity, through deeper and deeper dives, out of the porthole of my third eye."
