"I hesitate to explain any of my work as I wish the viewer to enjoy the work as seen. Distant Closeness works on two levels for me. As an exhibition piece, the strong perspective draws the viewer from a distance, then reveals the detail panels with closer observation. On a more spiritual level, the quilt may be seen as an impersonal relationship which at first is based on superficial observations. Closer examination of individual traits and qualities reveals a more complex person. Once we take the time to observe, we find a richness of details that changes our original view."
