"Coming from a heritage of master craftswomen, I learned sewing, quilting and needlework skills from my mother and grandmothers. they encouraged my help with their quilting and sewing projects. I got my first sewing machine on my 8th birthday to keep me from monopolizing my mom's. As a teen I made all my clothes and when I started my own family I enjoyed keeping them warm and clothed. After my third child was born, I became very ill and it was difficult for me to sew. I discovered miniature quilts ad their small scale was perfect for me. My illness has taught me patience and perseverance. That along with a streak of perfectionism is the perfect combination for a miniature quilt maker. I love vintage quilts and reproduction fabrics. In much of my work I try to capture the look of a vintage quilt made from saved scraps of past projects and faded clothes only much, much smaller. This quilt contains 30 interlocking rings 2 3/4 inched wide. Each ring is made of 24 wedges of print fabric. Many of the prints are fussy cut to show small motifs and about 300 of the fabrics are used only once. The connecting four-patch corner stones are medium pink and medium blue. The edge is finished with a narrow blue piping that imitates a narrow shaped binding. The quilt is hand quilted with 10 stitches to the inch. The arcs are quilted in the ditch and a four point trapunto flower is quilted in the center. This quilt was inspired by many vintage wedding ring quilts and other 30's scrap quilts. I combined all my favorite details into this quilt. The fancy quilting and trapunto in the center, the narrow shaped binding and the scrap look. I love all the reproduction pastels but I like to throw in some darks and other scraps like my grandmother would have in the depression."

"Figuring out how to reproduce this favorite pattern in miniature was exciting. Vintage wedding ring quilts inspired the trapunto, the narrow shaped 'binding' and the scrap look. Darks and a few fabrics that don't quite 'go' give it some sparkle. The details make it a best quilt packed away and taken out for special occasions. Some surprises: search for the spider, two lady bugs, a teddy bear, scissors, strawberry, and a pixie. Other small motifs abound. Old quilts tell a story with stains, worn bindings, and faded scraps saved from dresses, aprons, and baby clothes. My history, my love of fabric, my heritage of master craftswomen is the story my quilt tells. Did Grandma just pull out her best quilt and make up the bed for tiny guests?"
