"Quilting is a two-dimensional medium, but I like to play with the illusion of three. My quilts have a sense of depth that goes beyond the surface. Elements seem to float above the surface or recede into the depths of the quilt. Leaves float, balls bounce, satellites orbit planets. My goal is to encourage the viewer to look into the quilt, rather than just at it."Label Type

"Walking at dusk: life is happening inside the houses I walk by. Lights are coming on here and there and people are moving about. No matter what is happening in my own life this is clear: life goes on."Label
"I made this after the most difficult period in my life. I was caretaking a relentlessly stressful situation: I could not fail, I couldn’t stop, but I couldn’t continue either. It was too hard. How do you keep going when you have no choice? Identify your assets. Researchers. Experts. Support groups. My sisters. My friends. And inadvertently, the walking group at my church. We walked every day at 7 pm, rain or shine, and for an hour I was free. We walked from summer-sunny to winter-dark and back again (and again), through the neighborhoods radiating out from the parking lot. During the months of long twilight, I could see lights flicker on in the houses and people moving from room to room, going about their lives. I’d lose myself listening to the chatter of my friends’ everyday stories. How did the world continue to turn, so oblivious to the chaos happening in my family? What fragile little bubbles we live in.
It was three years before I entered my studio again. When I did, my Walk series emerged. This one is titled Dusk. Another part of my own healing journey.
I gifted it to the National Quilt Museum a few years ago. I’m so proud and humbled to be in their collection."
