The Roaring Twenties was an incredible time for the popularity of movies. The silent film actress, Clara Bow, was the original "It Girl," and was in over fifty movies, with most of them filmed during the 1920s. She was known for her sassiness and sex appeal and was one of the most beloved actresses during that time. In spite of her wealth and fame, she led a very difficult life and her photos often show her with a melancholy gaze. As a girl, whenever I saw photos of her, I was moved by how sad and beautiful she looked, and I tried to capture that feeling with this quilt. Over three hundred Grandmother's Fan blocks were transformed into Art Deco style diamonds in a color palette reminiscent of the black and white films of the time.
