I was inspired by a piece of fan art about my favorite 1920s Lady Detective, the Honorable Phryne Fisher (from the series by author Kerry Greenwood) - who is renowned in the series for her fashion and sense of design. I used a background 'halo', stylistically reminiscent of the work of Alphonse Mucha and the Art Nouveau aesthetic, but with a touch of Egyptian flair as a nod to the Egypt mania that swept society with the 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun's spectacular tomb.
The log cabin block, made of satin and lace, is behind her head as the focal point. In the Underground Railroad, a log cabin block indicated the home was a safe home, or that the holder was someone safe to speak to - this matched the character of Miss Fisher and seemed like an appropriate choice.
