I was inspired by the glitz and glamour of the flapper girls one can see in old 1920's photos and movies that depict that period. Upon research, I could see a lot of gold and black used in Art and designs. I loved all the angular and geometric designs, and that is why I chose the black/gold metallic herringbone print. I chose the Drunkard's path (traditional block) as a nod to alcohol prohibition during that period. But the curved designs also made me think of ballroom lighting-like you might see at a fancy Speakeasy or party in that time. I always like to insert a little humor, hence the old alcohol bottles hidden behind the old record player. I loved hand embroidering the dress and shoes with the metallic gold. This was my first time to "paint" with thread and really enjoyed it. I want to try more of this technique.
