This mother/daughter quilting team combined old favorites, a classic book and traditional quilt blocks, to create a quilt illustrating The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The creepy eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg overlook both the valley of ashes and the golden city, seemingly judging all to be a moral wasteland in this tragic novel. The variety of fabrics show contrasts between the starry sky, glowing city, and industrial wasteland.
