The year was 1926. Josephine Baker took Europe by storm in her iconic banana skirt as she danced and pranced across the stage in Munich. This Black American woman quickly became a legend of her own making. From the first moment I watched her dance in dated black and white film clips, I was completely mesmerized by her energy, driving passion and her confidence with self-made stardom. She did not merely seize joy while she lived, she created it.
