Karen Kay Buckley writes, "When people ask me how long it took to make Fiesta Mexico I tell them it took me 31 years. I started quilting 31 years ago and have completed over 300 quilts. While making each of these quilts I have learned a lot and everything I learn helps to make the next quilt better. If I had not made all of those quilts before Fiesta Mexico it would never have been as good as it is. The quilt was inspired by many trips to Mexico. Some blocks were inspired by the designs in Mexican pottery and some by tile work.” Renae Haddadin says that her quilting goal is to “fill, not fight” the design of the quilt top, and add interest, not subtract it. When she received the quilt top, she "just looked at it for a while" before beginning the quilting. She carefully decided on varying designs for each individual section.
