"I started making unique garments and woven wall hangings in 1962. To move from garments to two-dimensional artwork designed for the wall was a big leap for me.
I began to paint silk fabrics because I wanted a specific color and pattern on fabric without the difficulty of vat dyeing. I was interested in painting silk yet I wanted to retain the natural supple quality; the answer was to dilute the paint with water. Most of my silk fabric colors are pastel, very much like watercolor painting."
