"The idea of using a pineapple block came to me right away, but I spent time browsing hundreds of images to explore different variations. Along the way, I saw an intriguing possibility--using the pineapple block to create lanterns. From there, connecting the lanterns to a Chinese restaurant gave the piece its theme and direction. As I looked through fabrics, more ideas emerged about how to represent Chinese food visually. In the end, the iconic Chinese carryout boxes—so instantly recognizable—became the central design element around which the piece was built."
