"Indian Summer was inspired by the autumn woodlands of central Pennsylvania, and was designed as a remembrance of the bittersweet passage of a daughter from childhood into womanhood. The poem on the back of the quilt was written for this quilt by my eldest daughter, Heather Emily Sunday, in 1993:
Indian Summer
Silent lightness hours of slumber abruptly awaken to a barren forest of sterile shimmering trees.
The crisp crackling breath of autumn cuts deep through the last slice of sun offered down graciously by Helios.
Tenth-month thankfully accepting, smiling through frozen tears.
One last bloom of pink splashes up from the garden and drowns, reincarnated russet in a cornucopia centerpiece."
