"Coming from a printmaking background, I most often worked in black and white. Excited by the prospect of working in color, ideas began to develop at an ever-increasing rate. The new ideas seemed to be five years ahead of my ability to actually produce the work, so I tried to develop techniques that would allow me to work faster. In Indiana Crazy the Crazy-work patches at stitched on a muslin backing in the traditional method--like Log Cabin blocks. They were embellished and pieced into the overall quilt design, and then layered with batting and backing. The piece is hand quilted, but the Crazy-patches are tied through from front to back--thus saving me considerable time in both assembly and quilting. This quilt is one of my favorite Indiana-inspired pieces."
