Joyce Hite created this raw-edge, fusible web applique quilt, with machine blanket stitching around each applique shape. Most of the fabrics are Oakshott cottons, with a few batiks thrown in. The appliqué designs are by Pearl Pereira, of P3 Design’s American Album series. The edge treatment includes scallops with a hand embroidered Lazy Daisy stitch on each, plus piping of a mango color. Behind the scallops are Prairie Points with three rows of top-stitching, done with 30-wt silk thread.
Patricia Heinrich Hechler free-motion and ruler-work quilted this quilt in a more modern, yet classically grid-based style, with a border that is micro-quilted in 7 different thread colors for a tapestry effect. Within the blocks and block frames, holographic and metallic threads were used to bring sparkle to the meticulous raw-edge appliqué blocks. Can you see the large diamond shape that is quilted in the background as a secondary design element?Label
The quilting took 15 months full-time on the long arm, and includes over 2.2 million stitches!
This is the third quilt that Patricia and Joyce have created together.
