Artist CommentaryLabel
"What I hope to achieve with the artistry of my quiltmaking is to convey successfully, through the use of shapes abstracted from nature, my love and fascination with color and cloth. Underlying the bold, large scale graphic nature of my work is my use of colors that have both seasonal connotations and cultural undertones. I hope I have mastered this aspect of my art well enough that it shows in my work.
Because I consider myself an artist, I want those who see my work to feel my joy and sense of happiness. To a lesser degree, I want people to see my love of cloth and my respect for the traditional quilts that covered our beds long before they graced our walls."Label
"I work with needle and thread, cloth and beads, and consider myself a quiltmaker. My work salutes nature and celebrates all the beauty in the universe that I can see or imagine. My work echoes the colors of the seasons, too, and sings of the joy I find in seeing leaves flutter and flowers bloom, or seeing birds on extended wings soaring with butterflies in the wind.
I came to quiltmaking with no art training, only a desire and strong emotional commitment to create visual beauty with my hand, from cloth. My work, free to be..., it is the first fabrics selected that establish where each piece is going. I am the quiltmaker, free to be, still evolving and trying hard not to stand in the way of my own work and growth as a maker of quilts."
