“Quilting is exciting because it draws on a long folk tradition, yet leaves unlimited room for innovation. My quilts use the tradition of geometric repeat patterns as a springboard for exploration. This quilt is based on a diagram of the Maltese Cross embroidery stitch and combines a medallion format with a repeat pattern. In our mechanized economy it’s immensely gratifying to be able to spend hundreds of hours constructing one fine object. I am as proud of my dedication and skill in handling fabric as I am of my design sense. I hope to be seen as a part of both the fine art and craft traditions.”
