"Although I have been interested in quilts most of my life, I didn't start quilting until about 25 years ago. at first I made large quilts, and a few baby quilts for friends, but I quickly discovered my real passion was for miniatures. In both large and small, I found the appliqué most fascinating. Many of the methods I use have been taken from books and magazines, but I have developed my own style through trial and error. I usually do not design my own patterns, but depend on reducing patterns of others instead. 'Romantica' by Patricia Campbell and Mimi Ayers, was the inspiration for this miniature. I scaled down the pattern for 'Midsummer Night.' Working on the appliquéd flowers was such a joy, but quilting the dark navy background was a nightmare! Of the many miniatures I have created and showcased throughout the years, this one remains my favorite. Making a miniature quilt can take almost as long to do as a large one, especially when doing a lot of appliqué and quilting. I enjoy making small quilts that appear large when photographed. Miniature quilts are like puppies and kittens...so darned cute!"
