"I started quilting twenty-five years ago, reproducing vintage quilts. As a child, I learned precision sewing from my mother. Gradually, I moved to the miniature quilt genre where I am challenged to be precise and find creative fulfillment. Good fortune has brought me to this wonderful recognition by the [National Quilt Museum] miniature quilt collection, and numerous awards. Quilting reaches into my heart with freedom, creativity, and warmth. I love the experience of selecting, cotton, and shaping fine fabric into wonderful miniature designs and physical shapes. My technique engages vintage fabric, precision handwork, and playful inventiveness in traditional patterns. For me, quilting is the 'cutting-edge' where passion and artistry live. Whether I am touched by feel, sight, or smell of a new or old quilt, I know that it holds the heart of the maker in its threads and the life of the owner in its fabric. 'My Little Mariner's Compass Sampler' contains nine three-inch designs: Ohio Star, Log Cabin, Grandmother's Flower Garden, Bear's Paw, Mariner's Compass, Churn Dash, Tumbling Blocks, Dutchman's Puzzle, and Amish Star. The rich colors of vintage Civil War fabrics integrate the various designs. A Piano Key border plays the vibrant colors of the dynamic designs and their contrasting light backgrounds. Log Cabin corner blocks finish this hand-quilted miniature."
