“In my work, I strive to achieve the technical appearance of wonderful traditional quilts of the past, with designs and patterns I hope will become traditional for this era,” explains Moneca. “I have thoroughly explored the traditional Clamshell pattern and tried to give it an update through size, piecing and placement. Neon Nights is a bordered medallion consisting of large Clamshells that have been pieced in several different designs and set in a contemporary placement. I prefer to use fabric that is available to all quilters. I have no desire to dye, paint, stencil or create any surface treatment. I like to make unusual fabric work for me.”
