"I make only functional pieces. My quilts are made to be used, loved, enjoyed, shared, washed, and yes, wear out. While I was in Mobile, Alabama helping document old quilts, I saw many variations of this wonderful old design. I am home knowing that I had to make the pattern. I wanted my New York Beauty to be oblong, not square, so the circles would be more complete and set on the diagonal. After trying several patterns, I drafted the one I used in order to get the right proportions. I had been saving the red fabric for seven years, for just the right quilt."
