"What an inspirational theme for a show - food! My mind was swimming. How many millions of possibilities could there be? I tried to narrow it down by thinking of foods that would fit comfortably into the tall, narrow 24x40” parameters of this quilt challenge. Baguettes? Popsicles? An ice cream sundae? But it was the idea of using some of my overflowing boxes of lace that made me choose a classic romantic wedding cake. As the quilt progressed, I realized that some of the lace was old, some was new…and that some of the fabric, interfacing, and pattern templates were “borrowed” from my wonderful quilting friends. All it needed was something blue - voila, the pedestal. I realize the traditional saying is meant to refer to the bride’s wedding dress, not the cake, but I’m claiming artistic license."
