Preferring to hand piece, hand appliqué, and hand quilt designs firmly rooted in tradition, Cindy creates original adaptations in recognizable quilt patterns and styles. Among her favorites are circular designs such as sunflowers, sunbursts, English medallions, and the folded appliqué designs of the North Eastern part of America. These preferences come together in Olde English Medallion. The design is an original interpretation of traditional pieced patterns and folk appliqué motifs found in 19th century medallion quilts of Great Britain, and in Germanic cultures within America. Circular designs are repeated hundreds of times throughout the quilt top. “It was challenging to bring together so many fabrics in one large piece,” comments Cindy. “The intent was to create a quilt with a nostalgic, 19th century feeling that utilized some of my favorite patterns and techniques.”
