“Outlooks was the first in a series of ten window quilts which explored openness and barriers, freedom and restriction,” comments Barbara. “In this quilt, I especially enjoyed making each window and keyhole view different, to create a tantalizing array of glimpsed, idyllic scenes. Into these scenes are sewn tiny objects which seem to inhabit their fabric environments. Creating the effect of stonework in the gray fabric was a laborious process of hand quilting and stippling. A full-size key for use by any viewer who feels hemmed in or imprisoned is also added.”
