"Painted Metal Ceiling is my version of a cheap tin ceiling, around 1905. It was found in homes, especially dining and living rooms, also bars and five-and-tens. Usually tin ceilings covered bad ceilings or walls, or both. My husband, Bob, gave me the idea of using subdued colors. He did demolition work while in college and saw colored tin ceilings. The tin plates were usually about 24 inch x 24 inch. Design is everywhere in my work. The designs are simple, with ornate hand quilting to create depth in the work. Tin ceilings were strongly American architecture."
