“Designing and constructing Paisley Peacock took a little over a year,” writes Pat Holly. “I do all my own designing and love looking at textiles from all over the world for ideas. I took a trip to England and Scotland with the Costume Society of America and we were able to see many amazing antique textiles in several museums. The idea for the center of this quilt came from a picture I saw of a chintz fabric from India that had a peacock turning into a paisley. The outer borders were inspired by an exhibit I saw at the Burrell Collection outside of Glasgow, Scotland.
“All the elements in the quilt were drawn first on tracing paper as I need to trace the fusible for the appliqué in reverse. The quilt is completely machine appliquéd; there is no piecing. The areas are appliquéd together with joining frames. I have mainly been making miniature quilts recently and this was my first larger quilt in a while. I wanted to make a piece that had more to it, although many of the elements are small scale.
