“Port of Cassis was created from a photo that I took in the south of France in the small port of Cassis at dusk,” writes Lenore Crawford. “I loved the lighting and wanted to capture the fact that you could still see the buildings at that time of day while seeing the lights of the village reflecting in the water. This piece took me nearly a year to finish because constructing a fused piece can sometimes be complicated. I left off the lower water part for several months until I figured out how I was going to construct it. The raw edge appliqué of this piece enhances the design. “Fabric is an incredible flexible warm medium. Whether you are using it to create a traditional design or something very non-traditional like art quilts, fabric enhances the finished product because of its texture and warmth. I love to create art quilts in this realistic impressionistic style sort of like a photo. The fabric helps to make it better than a photo and can actually add so much more depth than a painting on canvas.”
