"My family and I have moved many times since I started quilting, but my creative roots are in the mountains and deserts of the Southwest. Nature, and our relationship to the environment have always been important inspirations for my work; I concentrate on the use of color and design to create quilts which are visually exciting and challenging. This quilt was inspired by a hiking trip in the mountains and deserts of Colorado and northern New Mexico. I tried to translate to fabric the feeling experienced when hiking for several hours, and then coming across an incredibly beautiful landscape of wild flowers, rock and mesas; it is a feeling of joy and elation, mixed with concern that this beauty might not survive for future generations."
