"I designed 'Rose Splendor' in 2005. I wanted to stay with the red and green theme, and I also wanted to incorporate a tiny bird in this quilt. Needing a place for the bird to rest, I designed an urn filled with flowers. After arranging the urns the way I felt was pleasing, I added the corner flowers and the center motif. Tiny butterflies and silk embroidery finished the quilt top. The appliqué was done with freezer paper and needle turning, and is all hand done. It was when the top was completed that I devised my quilting designs so that they would compliment the quilt. To bring the quilt to life I used what I love to do best, hand quilting and trapunto.
4 1/2 months to complete."Label Type

"After sewing for many years, the 70's and the revival of quilting brought my sewing techniques to a different level, and a new challenge in my life. I became enthralled with antique quilts, and their traditional beauty, and I wanted to take on the challenge to create one.
I have taken a few classes and lectures, but I feel that I have learned the most over the years through experience, speaking with others, quilt shows, and with very much practice. I'm inspired daily by my surroundings of nature, beautiful birds, and colorful flowers, all of which I dearly admire, along with a love of art. However, I am not able to paint, but using my favorite technique, appliqué, I am able, in my quilts, to express with my needle, the things that I love best.
Working on only one quilt at a time, it gives me great pleasure to design my quilts, then to see my patterns and quilting designs come to life in a finished quilt. Because of its great relief, I enjoy adding trapunto to my quilts, and the tradition of hand quilting has always been my method of quilting. I find it relaxing, and succeeding in finishing a quilt by hand is extremely rewarding.
Above all, workmanship is the most important part of my quilting, striving to always do my very best, and improve each quilt I make.
My first miniature quilt was made as a nice change between my large quilts. Little did I know that they would be much more difficult and time consuming than I ever thought. Because they are so small, when viewed by others, every detail shows, so preciseness is a must. However, after completing my first miniature, the pleasure I felt from accomplishing such a tiny task was quite rewarding, and lead me to designing and creating many others."
