“I love to make traditional quilts with contemporary twists. The twist may come from using new color combinations, or from adding a little appliqué or paint to traditional pieced blocks. Most recently, I’ve discovered that simple blocks are more versatile than complicated ones. By utilizing highly contrasting fabrics or more subtle color and value changes, it is surprising the number of different ways there are to combine simple, traditional blocks. My favorite part of the process, however, has always been the quilting. It is the ‘icing on the cake.’ I love designing the quilting motifs to fill the quieter spaces on the quilt’s surface with texture. And I love the meditative nature of the actual quilting stitches, whether made by hand or by machine.”
