"This quilt was started in July of 2011 and finished November 29, 2011 (about four months). I do all of my own designs and the construction technique I use (stitched raw edge fusible machine applique) requires a full size drawing of the image. I love designing and doing all the drawing myself. The quilt is made of silk fabric, purchased trims, silk and polyester thread, is machine appliqued with hand stitched embellishment. Hobbs Tuscany Collection Silk batting was used, with Liberty of London cotton used for the back. Another part of the quilt is the embellished background fabric behind some of the applique. I use the decorative stitch on my machine to create embellished fabric. This quilt was designed for my younger daughter, Alyssa. I had designed Pink Elephants for my older daughter, Emmy and knew I needed to make a quilt for both girls! Alyssa has always loved tigers so I wanted to include a tiger in the design. It took me awhile to come up with a tiger that wasn’t too scary! The rest of the elements came from looking at images on textiles and embroideries from India. I’m very happy that the two quilts are together in the museum."

"I have been making miniature quilts for several years. All my life I have enjoyed working on a small scale. I have tiny sweaters I knit for my dolls when I was about ten years old. The control and precision of sewing machines available today allows me to push the limits of how small I am able to do machine applique. I am drawn to the preciousness of miniature objects. I want the viewer to keep coming closer and closer to my creations and feel some of the wonder I have for this itty bitty world. I am still amazed and humbled that my miniatures are awarded such high honors and have great regard for the other wonderful miniature quiltmakers who work in such different methods."
