Description

Negatives and photos (a-i) are a collection of loosely found Forder Photographs. Some of the images show smallers planes that land on water, others shows big Air Canada aircrafts, as well as air landing strips, and The North Bay Airport . A part of the Forder Collection. Captain Doug Newman provided a description of the plane pictured in negative b, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32. McDonnell Douglas was an American competitor to Boeing. Air Canada started flying the DC-9s in 1966, the first airline outside of the United States to use them. Every now and then McDonnell Douglas presented a new, upgraded model of their jet. This is the reason for the "32" at the end of DC-9: DC-9-32. This particular airliner was bought by Air Canada in 7 December 1968- providing a benchmark date for the photo. Its Canadian registration letters were CF-TMK. The number 736 directly below the cockpit, by the nose wheel, is Air Canada's number. In 1998 the airliner's useful life had run out, and it was sold and scrapped.
