Description
Envelope (a) contains photographs and negatives (b-z) of the Merlin Hotel fire in North Bay, ON on November 10, 1961. Photograph (b) shows the rear view of the Merlin Hotel with a fire truck and electrical truck infront. We see the building being sprayed. Picture taken from the road. Belongs with negative (d). Photograph (c) shows the same side of the Hotel, this time at a slightly shifted angle, omitting the trucks and showing the entirety of building. Belongs with negative (e). Photograph (f) shows a fireman up on the ladder, right below Merlin name on rear of building Belongs to negative (h). Photograph (g) shows another building, Mollie's, which seems damaged by he fire as well. Belongs to negative (i). Photograph (j) shows two firemen in the street spraying water onto the rubble of the bulding. Belongs with negative (l). Photograph k) shows 3 men standing near electrical truck that has a man in the ladder, working on bent power line near fire site. Belongs with negative (m). Photograh (n) shows the front of Mollie's again, from a left side angle now. Belongs with negative (o). Photograph (p) shows similar angle as (n),taken from further back to show neighbouring building. Photograph (q) identical. Both belong with negative (r). Photograph (s) shows a man on a ladder being extended to power line. We see a "Hydro Electric Commission of North Bay" truck directly in the shot. Belongs with negative (t). Photograph (u) shows a fireman on a couple steps spraying water through a window into the building. Belongs with negative (v). Photograph (w) is taken from the road, shows a group of men standing next to a hose spraying water at debris. Lots of smoke in the air. Belongs with negative (x). Photograph (y) is taken from the street, shows a massive pile of debris next to the hotel, similar to photograph (w), from a slightly different angle and with no one in the shot.
