Description
Photographs of nose damage on plane. On the 3rd of January, 1951, North Star 17513 known as the 'Rockcliffe Ice Wagon' and carrying the code PX*513 from the C.E.&P.E. (Central Experimental and Proving Establishment) based at R.C.A.F. Station Rockcliffe, went into reverse thrust on landing at R.C.A.F. Station North Bay. It then slid off the runway causing the nose gear to collapse and damaging one Rolls Royce Merlin engine. The images are taken from a variety of angles looking at the damage. This photo is also found on page 8 (when using original publication page numbers) of ‘Flight Comment’ (a flight safety magazine): http://flightcomment.ca/wp-content/uploads/1951/03/1951-1-eng.pdfCreator
