Description

The front of the postcard is of the "GATEWAY OF THE NORTH, NORTH BAY, ONTARIO, CANADA." The image is a coloured photo of archway spanning over the road (possibly named Monk Street eventually turning into Lakeshore Drive.) There are two pillars that are made of stone with plaques attached - possibly constructed by the A.C.T. - Associated Commercial Travellers. There is a sign inbetween the two pillars that reads "GATEWAY OF THE NORTH - City of North Bay." There is a model of a Beaver is located on top of the sign a tribute to the fur industry in North Bay. The Landscaping can be seen through the arch and a black and white sign to the right. This arch has been changed over the years, due to cars knocking into it, and due to the fact Lakeshore Drive was widened and an overpass constructed spanning the railway tracks between North Bay and Ferris. The arch was eventually moved and is now located close by in Lee Park. On the back of the postcard reads "POST Bond Street Series CARD, and PLACE STAMP HERE N.B. 1." There is no address or message on the poscard listed on the back of the card.
